Inside Your Home
Paint and touch-up rooms if walls are badly marked or are dirty.
A bone or builder white is best.
Just before putting your home on the market, have your carpets
cleaned and or remove spots.
Arrange or eliminate furniture to make rooms appear larger.
Clear walkways.
Repair, paint/stain damaged furniture, doors, molding,
baseboards or paneling. Shine kitchen and bathroom cabinets.
Clean windows and sills inside and out. It is usually a good
idea to show the home with as much outside light as possible
(curtains drawn open).
Repair any leaky faucets, loose door knobs, sticky windows, etc.
Repair minor drywall cracks, torn screens, loose cabinet doors,
etc.
Replace worn, cracked or chipped sinks or toilet lids. Remove
and replace molded or soap stained caulk/grout in shower and tub
areas.
Clean out and organize closets. If basement is unfinished, store
items neatly.
Deodorize your house. Tobacco or pet odors that seem mild to you
may be highly offensive to prospective buyers. |
Outside Your Home
Make any repairs to fences, window and door screens, decks,
siding and trim.
Paint exterior if necessary. Sometimes some trim paint is all
that is needed. Make sure there is no peeling or chipped paint
on the exterior.
Check all cement, driveway and walk areas and patch/ repair as
necessary.
Make sure garage is clean and orderly.
In the winter, make sure all driveways and walks are
shoveled.
In the fall, rake leaves regularly.
In the spring, make sure flower-beds are free of weeds, and
plant flowers.
Mow and edge your lawn regularly, keeping it green with water
and fertilizer.
Prune and trim trees and shrubs removing any dead ones.
Keep all walks, porches, patios, decks and steps swept and free
of toys and clutter.
Remove all debris from around the home. Store unused or
rarely used cars, RVs, campers somewhere else, if possible. |
